Youka's Bio

Hello, I’m a Japanese-American living in Oregon, about a town 1.5 hour drive away from Portland. However, I’m originally from the East Coast in New Jersey, near New York City! After studying animal science in undergraduate school, I moved to the west coast to attend veterinary school! It’s been busy so far, but I’m excited to know that I will one day become a veterinarian. Other than being passionate about animals, I love getting to know people as an individual!

Since both of my parents are Japanese, I often visited and am especially in love with Hokkaido. During few summers, I attended an elementary school in Sapporo as a foreign exchange student. From my times visiting Japan, I realized that while Japanese people are really good at reading and writing in English, many do not feel confident in talking. They often are afraid that they are mispronouncing specific words. In my class, I want to change that by helping you become more confident in your English skills! If you want to have fun while communicating in English, come join my lesson! I look forward to talking with you!

Extra Info

Did you know that you can train animals other than cats and dogs? Zoos actually encourage their staff to train their animals. In the video, the staffs at Cincinnati  Zoo in Ohio are talking about the process of training their hippopotamus to voluntarily allow the veterinarian to take their blood for annual examinations. By training animals in this way, it can reduce the stress and fear the animals might have during the vet visit. It helps make the work easier for the staff and the animal!
